Practical Problems

Project Name

In March 2020, Scenic Pathway was in disrepair—not due to COVID, but years of neglect. A plan for a costly renovation was approved by the Forest & Beach Commission when now Councilperson Baron and Ferlito were on it but the project was canceled. Foxtails lined the .6-mile pathway, rotting landscape barriers were broken with exposed nails, and overgrown shrubs blocked ocean views. Our most valuable asset was left in shambles, causing painful foxtail injuries to dogs and frequent vet visits, yet no action was taken to fix it. We took pictures and videos to remind us of what neglect looks like.

Councilperson Baron is using his experience on the Forest & Beach Commission and Mayor Potter his 10 years on the Coastal Commission as a reason to be mayor. They watched this mess happen and nothing was done. COVID was probably used as an excuses but somehow I managed to start a volunteer effort and later a nonprofit, put in thousands of hours and raised hundreds of thousands from the public to fix it within a year. Shirley Moon’s Scenic Pathway team has had 205 weekly sessions since then to keep it pristine. Here’s a picture of what leaders who care about this special place can do.
